Administration and security center
2022, Kaltbach, Schwyz
Ruprecht Architekten, project competition in open procedure, 2nd prize
The Kaltbach Administrative and Security Center (VSZK) will serve as a central and representative address with a welcoming presence.
The VSZK establishes a clear address, complementing existing buildings. Its access layout allows for the flexible integration of future users. All functions are concentrated in one structure, highlighting the main facades of the existing buildings. A large portion of the perimeter remains untouched, preserving valuable land reserves.
The new building follows the topography, utilizing the slope to create two main access levels. The facades of the old buildings remain visible and are enhanced. Four administrative floors rest above a public elevated ground floor, with emergency services below. The mountain-facing side offers users views of the Mythen, while the valley side overlooks the lakes.

The wooden facade is protected by overhanging roof elements, inspired by traditional Schwyz roofs. Photovoltaic modules, easily replaceable, rest on these wooden elements, conveying a site-specific and contemporary sense of sustainability. The reddish base and facade elements playfully reference the red peakstone of the Grosser Mythen.
