Master’s theoritical Statement
Water is the source of life, and is primordial matter, in the physical and metaphysical sense. An element of contrast, contradictions and constant change, it can be calming or frightening. Where there is water, there are fears, dreams, legends and it therefore is extremely rich in symbolism.
This book explores the meeting of water and architecture, the sacred and poetic character that the liquid element brings to architecture. It reports, through the study of seven constructions from different eras and cultures, of the narrative and creative power of water and shows that water is capable of expressing the emotion of a memory anchored in our beings.
The seven case studies each present a different rêverie of water.
